Revised Standards for Magazine Publishers

11th April 2005

The Standards Agreement, established in 2003, between magazine publishers and wholesalers has been reviewed and enhanced.

The revised Standards Agreement, which took effect from 1st February 2005, sets the minimum levels of service that magazine publishers will provide to wholesalers. It has the full agreement of all the industry associations represented on the Joint Industry Group.

The firm intent is to provide the best possible service from magazine publishers to wholesalers that will in turn enable wholesalers to provide high levels of service to their retail customers.
The Agreement will continue to be reviewed not less than annually by the JIG Industry Service Standards Group, and updated subject to the agreement of the Group with the objective of further improving service levels.

Neil Robinson, Chairman of the Industry Service Standards Group, commented:

“I am pleased to announce the introduction of a revised and enhanced Standards agreement. Standards impose a minimum level of service on a sector of the supply chain and seek to change the behaviour of that group; accordingly, they have a positive impact on all concerned in the process.

“When setting or reviewing Standards it is important to ensure that they are necessary, fair, effective, affordable and enjoy a broad degree of industry confidence. I believe that the revised Agreement satisfies all of the criteria.

“These Standards provide clear accountability and can only result in an improved service to retailers and the end consumer.”
