New JIG Chairman for 2006-2007 Announced
17th January 2007
Peter Wagg is to be the Joint Industry Group Chairman for 2007/2008. He succeeds Paul Naismith on 1st April 2007.
Peter is a former President of the National Federation of Retail Newsagents (NFRN), and was the NFRN’s representative to the JIG board from June 2004 to June 2006. Peter has extensive retail newsagency businesses in Canary Wharf, and is a well-known and highly respected figure in the news industry.
Peter said: “It is a tremendous honour to be asked to Chair the Joint Industry Group and I hope to use my position as its Chairman to encourage progress across a wide spectrum of news industry initiatives over the coming year, to achieve efficiencies and benefits that all can share – not least our joint, and most important mutual customer – the consumer.” “I am under no illusion that the Chairmanship of JIG will be a challenging role; none less so in a period where the news industry is under the microscope of the competition authorities. What is important is to encourage the members of JIG to stay focused on the job ahead. Outside of what the competition authorities may do, there are many issues that need attention in our industry and lots of opportunities for the news industry to demonstrate how well it can work together to resolve problems and improve the supply chain. I look forward to the year ahead, and to fostering good working relationships between the news industry Associations that are represented within JIG.”
