Magazine Data

The magazine industry has worked consistently to reduce unsold volumes with a year-on-year reduction of (7%) in unsolds during Qtr 1 to Qtr 3 of both 2007 and 2008, equating to an estimate of almost 100 million copies removed from the supply chain during the full years of 2007 and 2008.

This reduction of unsold volumes is set against a backdrop of falling magazine sales, but far outstrips the rate of sales decline.  With RSV variance of (0.1%) for 2007 vs 2006 and (2.0%) for 2008 vs 2007 (Jan-Sep), the industry's efforts to reduce unsolds is a considered approach designed to leave the value of magazines unaffected.

The % unsolds figures, shown below, demonstrate the industry's objective to drive efficient sales and gradually reduce waste.

2006  37.6%
2007  37.1%
