JIG Voucher KPI Group

Objectives
To improve the efficiency of voucher handling throughout the supply chain.

Progress
Considerable time and effort has been spent studying KPI statistics and deciding how best breaches could be captured.

The group has focused on two areas:

  • Vouchers issued without valid coupon barcode
  • Vouchers notified after voucher redemption start date

During the review period the volume of KPI failures in both of the agreed measures fell below 1% of the total. It was felt that these improvements were due to better systems within the supply chain and increased awareness following the publication of updated best practice guidelines for the production and processing of vouchers. During 2004, wholesalers will continue to measure and monitor breaches, and any performance deterioration will be raised with the relevant publisher/distributor.

The Voucher group has also been identifying the physical problems retailers experience through poorly-designed vouchers. Among the difficulties are:

  • Voucher value not shown clearly
  • Validity date too small and difficult to read
  • Confusing promotional messages
  • Unnecessary wholesaler instructions
  • Retailers not understanding the construction of the voucher barcode and being unable to link to systems

To help raise awareness of these issues the group intends to review the Best Practice Guidelines and circulate these, together with a checklist of "do’s and don’ts" to all circulation directors and managers.

Key Tasks for 2004/2005
The group agreed the following priorities and key tasks:

  • Newspaper and magazine personnel involved in voucher design to be identified to create a communication channel to advise originators of ‘confusing vouchers'
  • The voucher design advice contained in the Voucher Best Practice Guidelines to be reviewed and circulated to all those responsible for designing vouchers
  • Originators of ‘confusing vouchers’ to be provided with corrective design advice
  • Persistent offenders to be "named and shamed".
