The Joint Industry Group is the forum for discussions
on all news industry matters.
It has three main objectives:
- To improve supply chain efficiencies and drive simplification
in order to enhance the service offer to the consumer
via the newstrade;
- To promote the interests and advancement of the
industry; and
- To drive positive change and set the agenda for
the industry.
Meetings are held every month with one member of each
of the participating associations in attendance. A representative
from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) also attends
each meeting as an observer.
Membership of JIG is open
to bona fide trade associations involved within the
newspaper and magazine supply chain.
Current members of the group are Adrian Smith - ANMW, John Lennon - ANR, Richard Lamb – BRC, Neil Robinson - ISS chairman, Stefan Wojciechowski – NFRN, Mike Newman – NPA and Mike Mirams – PPA.
The role of the chair rotates on an annual basis
between participating associations. The current chairman is Sally Cartwright OBE, director at large of HELLO! magazine, who holds office until the end of March 2009.
The purpose of
JIG meetings is to approve the objectives and review
progress of each of its working groups and to
provide advice and guidance when appropriate. JIG ensures
that realistic timeframes are set. Decisions are made
consensually. JIG also provides a general forum for discussion
of key
industry issues.
